As well as delivering a new storm relief sewer that runs through the Counters Creek catchment, we have also identified a number of places where our smaller local sewers are struggling to cope with sudden heavy downpours.
To stop these local sewers from filling up and forcing sewage into basement properties in the local area, we are planning to upgrade these sewers.
This will give the local sewer network the ability to deal with excess storm water which flows through local sewers in residential streets before they connect with the larger storm relief sewers running through both boroughs.
This programme is still being developed. Once our designs are finalised we will consult with residents in these areas to discuss the work we have planned.
We will be working closely with both boroughs to stagger the timings of these improvements so disruption to traffic and local communities is kept to a minimum.
